my top 8: ideas for relaxing in dusseldorf

i have just come back from a short and sweet holiday in dusseldorf, germany. for me, this was a slightly different holiday, in a sense that i did not rush around to see historic sites, but rather, just did whatever my friends did and just chilled in coffee shops, stores, bookstores. my impression of the city is that it is so classy and elegant, and orderly! i really needed this, after a chaotic belgrade. so, here are a few tips to enjoy the city.

  1. stay with friends - do whatever they do (biking, shopping, recycling)
  2. have a discussion about all things german: people, politics, economy, EU, culture, festivals
  3. get breakfast in a nice, elegant, classy bakery, and people watch
  4. ride bike along rhine river - at the end of the ride, order lemonade and watch the river flow by
  5. shopping in old town
  6. visit schloss benrath - attend the guided tour
  7. attend the carneval!
  8. buy monocle magazine and read at the airport and during the flight back
