Easter in Belgrade

I thoroughly enjoyed this Easter break. Here are my reasons and activities:

1. Easter is my favorite holiday, it has a feeling of happiness and joy around it, and also a lot of cultural activities: for example, egg decorating. Our traditional egg coloring can be done with onion peels, with cheap colors bought at the market, or the very, very traditional skill of using wax for designs! My auntie learned this skill from my great grandma, but I seldom see people use it these days. Also, I was very impressed by a nice collection of egg stickers inspired by monastery art and interior deco! Here’s a photo of eggs that my cousin did:

2. During Easter, whenever you visit people or receive guests, you get to exchange the colorful Easter eggs! I enjoy this tradition, it’s very nice, receiving a red egg for good luck wherever you go.

3. I treated my god sister and her fiancee to dinner. They are such a lovely couple, I did not know her fiancee well before, so it was a chance to see them interact as a couple.

4. Visited my friend and his family including his five year old girl. She was so excited about the traditional egg breaking custom that she found a “champion” egg and using it, she cracked all the other eggs within minutes! She even had this cute movement where she throws back her arm and then swings the egg towards the other egg with lots of speed and force!

5. Had big family lunch with lots of meat, good wine, good conversations, nice people.

6. Watched on TV Formula 1 races in Malaysia, and even found myself enjoying the sport!

7. Caught up on my reading: now reading Legends and Selected Works of T.S. Spivet, both very intriguing.

Looking forward to next Easter already! And you, did you have a good break too?
