another reason why it’s cool to be in serbia sometimes

last weekend my book club invited a famous writer miomir petrovic to discuss his book for our book club. basically, i found him on facebook, explained about the club and invited him, and he said yes. ah, the magic of facebook and living in a small, compact country like serbia! :)

the talk was so fresh and inspirational! the author is a great speaker, talks very frankly and openly with lots of humor. his books on the other hand, don’t have much humor but are just as passionate and thoughtful.

the author complimented us on such a meet up, saying it’s even an important cultural movement, when lots of bookshops are closing down in serbia. he posted our meetup on his publisher’s website and his facebook fan page. so nice of him!

here’s a bit of fun facts about our club too:

1. this last meeting was a tri-celebration: a celebration of our club’s one year anniversary, celebration of world book day, and of course celebration of our guest speaker

2. our first book was how to kill your husband

3. we meet once a month, at a non-smoking cafe decorated like a living room

4. the members are from all backgrounds: engineers, linguists, marketeers, psychologists

here’s to many more book clubs in belgrade and across the globe!
